Modern dance has its origin in ballet, this form of art is a "reaction" to ballet which uses the body to explore infinte space and lines and energy in intricate dance movement. Through the use of many developed techniques from prior experience in ballet, students learn to use their own natural instincts, impulses, emotions and a the natural feeling of being loose when moving.

This form of dance allows the dancer to release their inner feelings in an outer form of expression. This dance uses especially the body alignment and movement of ballet to perform. Modern dance encompasses a broader world than traditional ballet. It is a movement that uses freedom and meaning while expressing individuality.
